Maureen, how poignant… I’m sure your visit was truly a blessing to your dad. Sarah Orne Jewett has so many nuggets of truth in her writings.
I am flying up to my folks for a visit in a couple of weeks. My mom and sisters and a niece are going to the new musical “Little House on the Prairie” at the Ordway Theatre in Saint Paul. Melissa Gilbert “Laura” is playing the role of Ma!

I have always loved that show and how exciting to see “Laura” in person! That will be a good time - especially sharing it with your Mom and sisters!

I enjoyed Kentucky but I couldn’t find the puppet booth where I bought the finger puppets last year. Judy and I saw two movies since we were there two nights. Whip It was very good and the other one about lying was also good. I am going with Donna, Wednesday night, to the Fever finals. If they win, Wednesday, they are the Champions.

Maureen it is difficult to see your father’s decline. I guess we get to go through tha twith our husbands too.
I had a busy weekend. The trip up to Chicago took forever (construction on I 65 resulted in standing still for at least 20 minutes)but I had a book on tape so I didn’t really care. We went to a poetry reading on Friday night (Margie’s daughter), had a garage sale on Saturday (made $40 which paid for my gas); and attended the burying of her brother’s ashes. We also went out to dinner one night and had lunch at her cousin’s after the ceremony.
While I was gone Kara came over and walked the dogs a few times. She also visited with lonesome Bill.

Sounds like fun trips for CarolFay and Susan. It’s good to take time away when ever you can!

I am here ... home safe and sound from my trip to Akron. The 15th is fine with me.
I made all my connections - only had to wait 15 minutes or so in between arriving/departing and connections - flights left the gate early etc. From house to house the travel time was about 1 hr longer than driving, gas vs ticket price was about the same but it was more relaxing for me to fly.
It is sad to see my Dad dependent on aides for dressing and toileting. And how he feels that he can’t complain about how some of the aides treat him - with not as much concern and care etc because he feels that they will take it out on him in some way. He isn’t standing or walking at all. His pant size has gone from a 54 waist to 48 waist in a year. The next to go will be his ability to feed himself due to arthritis.
The book Carol that you gave me - Pointed Firs - there was a line in it… you never get over being a child as long’s you have a mother to go to. I guess the feeling is stronger for a mother than a father and especially as I see him grow more dependent. It is just a sad time.
Glad to be home!
