biodiversity using native plants
I thought the speech last night was quite interesting. I know people who are into planting native plants but never quite understood what the fuss was about. Well Doug Tallamy advocated for choosing plants that support a variety of insects to feed the dwindling bird species and entire population ; diminish lawns and increase varieties of plants (especially native woody plants) to add oxygen to the atmosphere. He even had a website to help with making plant choices.

I suppose he wanted everyone to buy his book to get the specifics!!
Kate how was your trip? Any baby news?
I just got back from tutoring at Greenbriar. When I see the big garbage cans full of breakfast paper sacks, I always think of Maureen…

Actually, I bought the book before the lecture and will share it around. My mom has it first, but I’ll pass it around CC when she’s done.

Did you get him to sign it? I agree that the information was depressing but unbelievably some people still fail to see that there is a problem. I think INPAWS has lots of info on native to Indiana plants. I picked up a brochure from them at one of the booths. They have a sale every year.(I think in the spring). I will bring the brochures to cc next time.

Mom and I were there—but didn’t see Susan. It was interesting and I will definitely try to do some of the things he talked about. The first half was depressing; I wish he would have spent more time on what we can do, specifically Indiana native plants.
