Sorry I won’t be at Poetry Club

Carol, will you be back by Monday? I talked to MaryAnn and explained I couldn’t get out of doing Family Storytime (I’m really looking forward to it). I’m sorry I’m missing Poetry group and MaryAnn’s talk. She is coiming to Glendale library and we will have an early dinner at Paneras (I’m excited I still get to see her even for a short visit). Sue, I will see you Monday and thanks for coming over to help me. I haven’t heard from Nora yet. I should this coming week.

Fun and not so fun

Beautiful weather here since I arrived - 80’s and sunny and peak leaves.  Fun stuff so far:  Oktoberfest and dancing on Saturday night, watching the Vikes (lose) with my dad, seeing “The Help” with my folks, going out to the state park here in New Ulm for a late afternoon picnic, hiking and campfire, going with Mother to her weekly “Knitters” morning coffee (just like CC - no one knits, just talk!).  Not so fun (but very satisfying and Maureen-approved):  cleaning out the the second floor of my folks barn (actually a carriage house that was on the property - a former farm - when my folks built this house in 1970) that had furniture, barrels, boxes and containers full things that were many many years stored.  Also had live mice jumping out of them, old nests, squirrel stashes, etc etc and lots of heaving carrying down narrow turning stairs.  But, lots of old treasures found too - probably every letter that I wrote home (including from when I was at Girl Scout camp for instance, and from going to the U, from our Mpls days, and Indy etc.) Old cards, old clothes, old dishes.  An old sewing machine that belonged to my my dad’s Grandma Miller - dating back to around 1860 or so - I dismantled part of the solid oak stand to keep several boards (put together tongue in groove, and with square nails) that I may have made into a wall shelf.  Anyway, it was a satisfying job.  This morning the Picker Uppers came to haul everything away.  And today we hope to just relax and enjoy the beauty of the day.

Next up, on Saturday driving over to Rochester (about 2 hours east of New Ulm) to my younger sister’s where more family will gather to be at the Rochester airport that night to welcome home my dad and about 110 other WW II veterans from their Honor Flight to Washington DC that day.  This is the one he was scheduled to go on last May and couldn’t because of his emergency surgery etc.  The family party will continue on Sunday.  On Monday I will fly out of Rochester, back to Mpls, and then on home to Indy.

Great visit in Munster

I had a great time, in Munster, visiting family, going to servaces, eating the holiday meals and having Matt come for Friday night dinner. I stayed over when I found out he was coming for dinner and stayingover night so he could work the Morehead State Valpo game. I left Sat. morn. and went right to work. Then Elliott and I had Brunch with Matt, today. He stopped here, late last night, stayed over and left, after brunch, to go back to Kentucky. Jen will be there this afternoon for a three day visit with Matt. Tomorrow is my Nora interview. I have another short work week since Sat. is Yom Kipper.

too many vegetables

How’s this for odd? My doctor said I should quit eating so many vegetables. Apparently my effort to increase my fiber content and thus lower my cholesterol has hit a snag. I was experiencing rather severe intestinal disturbances that may have triggered symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.  It’s always something.

Wine, Dine and Paint

I have put the pictures from last Thursday on my Picasa Web Album.  There are also some from Stuckey Farm on Saturday, but I didn’t separate the two events - so click through and just look at what you want to!

Attention Maureen

I left you a voicemail on your home phone - but I want to be sure you get this message!
Gloria wants to come tonight after all, so I called down to the Propylaeum and reserved another spot - the nice lady said it won’t change the table setting, and all 7 of us will be seated together.  I will not be riding down with you, instead Gloria will pick me up and we will head down and meet you all there.

new day at work

I survived four hours of work and then went swimming. After returning home I dug up some garlic for my swim teacher (she came by) and then collapsed on the coach for 30 minutes. I hope that I can do a good job tommorrow and stay awake the entire six hours in order to write reports. All the staff was quite pleasant to work with and on the whole I enjoyed myself. The toughest part is having to get up when it is still dark and take the boys for their walk.

Sorry I won’t be at CC

I have sooo much to tell about the two Memorials, for Bob, and the GOOD NEWS about Matt and Boby (work related, ladies. Don’t get too excited! LOL) Today Donna and I are getting together to go over our plans for Pittsburgh after our Tai Chi class. I took off two days for the memorial I have today and tomorrow off, I work two days then have four days in Pittsburgh. I can get used to working two and tree day weeks. In October Elliott and I hope to visit Matt, during Elliott’s fall break, in Kentucky. A Texas trip will have to be next Spring. Not doing much for Labor Day. Are any of you?

A hot one!

Despite the heat… I walked 3 miles, swam 3/4 mile, and raked leaves.  I couldn’t find anything I wanted to do inside - plus I had energy to burn.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

I have to Share this

My Cousin is being cremated so there won’t be a funeral but a Memorial Service at the orchestra Hall in Chicago. I am able to get off of work and go to Chicago on Thursday. I will go with my family and come back Friday, Matt was going to go but he has to go to Morehead State to a sporting event and top find a place to live so when he goes the following week he will have a place.I feel bad he was going to see Jen before he got the job, right before I got there. Now he has to put it off since that is when he is starting his job and moving. Now only Donna and I get to see her.Sorry I won’t be at CC next week but I do plan to go the 22nd.

Starting a new Post

Since I was # 14 I thought it’s time for a new post. Like I said I would be in favor of having a CC family get together at a park. I definitely remeber the one at my house!! It did happen! I think Carol nust have moved shortly after that so that might be one reason we never had another one. Maureen, I would like to hear more about your Geocahing since we have a project and book here at Glendale. I don’t have the Green light, yet, but I will have some news about Matt.

Cobwebs

Years ago when we all lived on or near Grandview and our children were all young (as were we)... I seem to remember an occasion - just one in all our time together - that we gathered in Carol Fay’s backyard for a family pitch in dinner.  2 men (who shall remain nameless) have no recollection of this happening.  Does anyone else remember doing it?

interviewed by channel 13, today

Mary Mills, from channel 13 came into Glendale to interview patrons on how they feel about Glendale reopening on Fridays. I was one that was interviewed. I also think the camera man taped me helping a patron on the compute. Now what makes it to the TV and what to the Cutting room floor I have no idea. I plan to watch until I have to go to Zumba at 6:00.I get off at 4:30 today so just enough time to go home, set up the VHS and watch while I’m dressing for Zumba. Today the class starts at 6:00 instead of 6:30. It’s so sad that now the death count, from the fair tragedy, is 7! Carol, that is great about Delaney making a meal.
