Looking for Friends

Dave and I were the high bidder at the Second Helpings Harvest fundraiser - the wine samples may have influenced me.  We won a hands on chocolate truffle rolling class from The Best Chocolate in Town (I think it is on Mass Ave) for seven of my friends and me (one will be Dave).  We’ll tour the kitchen, eat chocolate and take some home.  I need to call her to find out days and times.

Do I have any friends that would like to join me?

Heading home, maybe

We flew back from London to Copenhagen tonight, arrived around 11 pm and now we are at the airport Hilton.  We have repacked and organized everything to include the things we bought, and Steve just checked our email.  Delta sent us a message that our flight is overbooked and “upon check-in” we can find out if we want to re-book etc.!!  I am all for it, but as usual, Steve just wants to get going on the original flight.  I’m hoping that the deal is so good, he can’t refuse.  I can see it both ways, but it would fine to stay one more night here too!

We saw “Wicked” in London last night - wow - but I have to say that “Love Never Dies” was the better of the two.

It has been a grand vacation, a once in a lifetime trip I think!  And yes Maureen, we have been walking our behinds off all around London and everywhere else!  There is a scale here in the hotel bathroom, and if I get brave (and feel like converting kilos to pounds) I will step on it!!

Hope to see you all soon!

Our time in Belgium

Hi from London!  Having a great time here, saw Love Never Dies on Tues nite - original cast, and the Phantom could sing the pants off of any one!  Unbelievable.  Yesterday we took the train out to Chawton to Jane Austen’s house - wow - what an experience.  Today we went to Greenwich, 0 Meridian and all that!  Tonight we are going to see Wicked!
Norway was spectacular - Steve agrees with me now, that it is heaven on earth!

movie making

I received this email tonight:

Hello! This is Joshua Dinner, Anne and Alan’s son. I am writing to share with you some exciting news about my feature film based on the book “Alex & Me” by Dr. Irene Pepperberg.  Below is our formal letter and it would be an honor if you could share this with your friends, colleagues, and family as we continue to develop the screenplay.  It is a remarkable story with so much heart and you can read all about our upcoming adventures on the new movie website http://www.alexandmethemovie.com.  Tomorrow, I’m off to Boston with my team to visit the science lab at Brandeis, conduct interviews, and delve deeper into the characters mentioned in the book.  Thank you for taking the time to check out the site and help us publicize this very special project.  I wish you all a great rest of the summer!

giant zucchini available

Margie brought this huge zucchini. I have no intention of baking zucchini bread but am willing to give it to anyone who is interested in baking or whatever.
We had a busy weekend and went to Fringe and Athens on 86th. Had a good time.
My friend with the gastric bypass had a slight setback when she had an allergic reaction to the pain medicine.  she is not feeling perky and is experiencing some pain.

And more

We are at the airport Hilton in Copenhagen, ready to fly tomorrow morning to Bergen, Norway to see our friends who had the 50th wedding anniversary in Maribo the first Saturday we were here.  We are staying with them at their house and I’m not sure how much time I will be spending doing pics so I thought I would get another album done tonight.  It is beautiful weather here, about 70 and sunny.  Belgium was quite cool and rainy.

Our day in Amsterdam

Am getting a little behind on the pics.  We left Netherland on Sunday and drove to Brussels - spent two days with Steve’s work friend Hans, and family and friends.  Left Brussels this a.m. (it is a miracle - our second one this trip - that we found our way out of that city!!!!) and drove aboaut 7 hours here to Hannover, Germany to spend the night.  Tomorrow we drive the rest of the way to Copenhagen, turn in the car and fly on Fri to Bergen, Norway.

It’s not Europe or Chicago, but…

We had a great family reunion in the Sandusky OH area.  We spent one night in Cleveland and dined at the House of Blues, spent the next day at Cedar Point, then the beach, the pool, the shops, the family dinner, the family breakfast and came home.  All good.  We brought my brother back—he goes for his second opinion tomorrow morning.

Next batch of pics

http://picasaweb.google.com/carol.flower.hatfield/MariboDenmarkAugust678GermanyAug8#

We are leaving Germany tomorrow (Wednesday) and driving to Delft, Netherlands.  Have pics from Germany that I will work on when we get to our next hotel - it’s too late tonight! Just got back from our last evening with Gerhard and Monika - it’s been pretty special reconnecting with them.

IT’s NOT EUROPE BUT…

We had another 1/2 family reunion in Chicago this past weekend.  Kevin and Jen were to fly in - Roanoke to Philadelphia to O’Hare ... best laid plans - they ended up Roanoke - Philadelphia - Cincinnati and then Rachel drove them here and we drove them to Chicago. Marie was to pick up her husband at “the airport” - Marie was at O’Hare but Tom was at Midway so as long as it was kind of on our way ... Kevin, Rachel, and Jen all hopped out of the car at the beginning of the ramp, ran inside to use the restroom, ran out the door and managed to get in the car before we had driven 15 feet. It has been a long time since we had 5 people in the van!  We had a nice visit.  Dave and I went up the Sears Tower and did the architecture boat tour.  It was good but too much information to absorb!  Sunday morning Kevin and Jen left (their 5th airport in 2 days), Dave left for Duluth, and Rachel and I drove back here. Kitty ended up getting bit by 2 of the 4 dogs there and 1 dog bit another - I think next year the extra dogs will stay home…

Copenhagen Photos

Here are photos from our day in Copenhagen.  http://picasaweb.google.com/carol.flower.hatfield/DenmarkAugust52010#

Our weekend in Maribo for the 50th wedding anniversary was so great!!  Now we have driven into Germany, little town of Bad Segeberg (near Hamburg) and staying in a little hotel right on the town square.  Met up with our friends Gerhard and Monika Neumann (he was AFS student of Steve’s family in high school) for dinner in a restaurant by the lake, and tomorrow we will all go to the town of Lubeck on the Baltic Sea.  (the home of Marzipan candies)  Hope to have more photos uploaded tomorrow.

Denmark

All is well so far!  Copenhagen was interesting - history rich, beautiful flowers, bicyclers as common as cars.  We walked around the city for about 5 hours after we checked into our hotel on Thursday morning - up for 36 straight hours by the time we went to bed that night.  But a good night’s sleep cured any jetlag, and yesterday we drove down to this island in south Denmark, little city of Maribo where today (Saturday) is the 50th anniv. party for Lis and Nils (our friends from our times in Hawaii).  I hope to put an album of photos up by tonight!

I have to Brag!!

This is the first time Bobby has been manager of a baseball team, even if it is a Summer League College team, and the team just won their first playoff round last night. Both Bobby and Matt are still applying for a job. They will substitute teach, when school starts, until they find a job. i didn’t feel good, this morning, since I didn’t sleep well last night. I decided to go to Zumba, with Barb, and I really did feel better after the class. It’s true what people say about exercising! it does make you feel better!! Are any of you going to see Mary Poppins, at Murat, in Oct.? I’m going with Donna. I enjoyed the movie and there are new songs in the current Musical.
